Lapland-November 2018

Lapland with Santa Breaks

Julie from Sidmouth was lucky enough to join Inghams Santa Breaks on a 3 day trip to Lapland.

The exclusive flight got everyone into the festive spirit with staff dressed up and games onboard.  Santa’s reindeer were even helping pull the plane!

A short transfer to Levi followed with a stop on the way to collect a Thermal suit and boots for everyone. These are lovely and warm and can be worn over normal clothes.

There are a number of hotels to choose from including the Levi Spa Hotel, the Panorama, The K5 and the crazy reindeer, all offering different standards and various options including standard rooms, family suites and rooms with private Saunas.  My particular favourite was the crazy reindeer which was just a short walk from the town centre, and offered several room options for families.

During the 3/4 night stay a trip to Santa’s village is included.  This offers the chance for each family to have a private meeting with Santa and plenty of free time to explore the village, where activities include gingerbread biscuit making, sledging and cooking sausages over an open fire.

Optional activities during the holiday include visiting the reindeer and husky dogs, skiing, snowshoeing, horse riding and laser quest.  Subject to weather conditions there may also be chance to do snowmobiling and husky and reindeer rides. I was lucky enough to ski and this was quite unique as was on floodlit slopes.

Short days and a blanket of snow gave a magical Christmas atmosphere everywhere with late and long pink sunrises and early amazing golden sunsets.  Once the sun has set the chance of seeing the Northern Lights becomes real – and if the skies are clear it is best to head out somewhere dark and open for the chance to spot these.

The holiday is rounded off with a party night where Santa will return and visit the children with a small gift, while the whole family enjoy a traditional Finnish festive meal.

I can definitely recommend a trip to Lapland for the whole family as a fantastic way to truly get you into the Christmas spirit and to enjoy the unique and stunning landscapes and atmosphere of Lapland, a treat for all the family.
